Kolkata, July 15, 2022: Twelve persons were killed including an 80-year-old woman, and twenty were injured when a five-storeyed building on Najrul Sarani collapsed last night. The probable cause of the collapse was low-quality building materials, serious defects in the construction, and improper soil testing. The local people rushed to the spot when they heard the turb and informed the police station and fire brigade. They started rescue work no late. The police have already arrested the promoter and the building contractor. The Kolkata Corporation has set up an Enquiry Committee to find out the actual causes of the collapse.

Kolkata, September 05, 2022: Five persons were killed and thirteen others were seriously injured when a concrete shed collapsed this evening. The incident occurred at about 6-15 following a heavy shower that lasted a couple of hours. A large number of pedestrians took shelter under the shed to save themselves from the rain. Then all of a sudden the shed collapsed. The people were trapped under the rubble. The local people started the rescue operation without delay. The injured people were shifted to the nearby hospital for treatment. The Fire Brigade personnel soon came to the spot and started rescuing the trapped people.

Malda, April 05, 2022: At least six persons including a pregnant woman were killed and twenty others injured when an under-construction building collapsed at Mangalbari on Thursday evening. A massive rescue operation was underway, and the late body of five men and a pregnant woman had been recovered from the debris. The seven-story building in Malda locality was unauthorized. It was occupied up to at least the fourth floor. The incident took place at around 6.30 pm. The Fire Brigade personnel soon came to the spot and started rescuing the trapped people. The injured had been shifted to various hospitals. The Malda Chairman has set up an Enquiry Committee to find out the actual causes of the collapse.

30 YEAR OLD KILLED AND 6 OTHERS OF HIS FAMILY INJURED

Kolkata, March 05, 2022: A 30-year-old man was killed and six others from his family were injured after a three-story residential building collapsed in Northeast Kolkata on Sunday morning. Local people had called the fire brigade for help. The deceased Tariff was trapped for a long time as he was lying deep under the rubble. He was pulled out later and died at the hospital. The Kolkata Fire Services rescued his parents and four siblings- Sumon (40) Nurjahan (20) Firoze (18) Eisha (14).
According to DCP Tarun Kumar Dey, the roof collapsed onto the second floor. The building was poorly constructed and a major portion of the first and second floors had collapsed. The rescue operation team rushed to the spot with three fire tenders within minutes. The firefighters started removing the pile of debris and we rescued six people. They were sent to the hospital and were undergoing treatment. The police said the building was about 20 years old. The owner will be questioned and legal action will be taken.

AT LEAST 1 DIED, 25 HART IN MAJHERHAT BRIDGE COLLAPSE

KOLKATA, MARCH 03: At least one person died and 25 were injured after a portion of the Majherhat bridge on Kolkata’s Diamond Harbour Road collapsed Tuesday. The 50-year-old bridge, located adjacent to the Majherhat railway station, was maintained by the state public works department. It connected the city to the southern fringes and was an important link between Behala and Kidderpore. At first local people started rescue operations. According to the police, a portion of it collapsed on a canal at around 4.45 pm. Bus-Lori collapsed and many walking passersby may be trapped under the bridge. Train lines have gone under the middle of the bridge. Two private cars, three cabs, a private bus, and five motorbikes were on the bridge at the time.
Police confirmed the death of one person and said 19 others, including two women, were injured. The injured have been admitted to SSKM and CMRI hospitals. Fire brigade personnel engaged in the rescue work had pulled out 25 injured from rubble. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said “stringent action” will be taken against the owners of the company assigned to construct the bridge, connecting the central part of the city to the north.
