Active and Passive Voice Examples (Negative Sentences)
Active and Passive Voice Examples of negative sentences are presented here on all tenses and modal sentences.
There are two ways to change Active Voice to Passive Voice. The first is according to Tense. The second is according to the form of the Verb. Both methods are presented here. It is not very hard to learn.

Voice Change of Present Indefinite Tense (Negative)
Rule 01:
If the Active Voice has “Do not/ Does not” in the negative sentence, we will follow the below rule to change the active voice into a passive voice.
- The object of active voice will be subject in passive voice.
- Chose one helping verb (am not /is not /are not) according to the subject.
- Write past participle of the verb.
- Write “By” preposition then subject.
If the Active Voice is in the negative Present Indefinite Tense then Voice Change can be done by following the rule below.
Object+am/is/are+not+v3+by+Subject.
Active: Rahul does not take a cup of coffee daily.
Passive: A cup of coffee is not taken daily by Rahul.
Active: I do not do it.
Passive: It is not done by me.
Active: He does not read a storybook.
Passive: A storybook is not read by him.
Active: He does not sell fish in the market.
Passive: Fish is not sold by him in the market.
Active: I do not help him.
Passive: He is not helped by me.
Active: My mother does not cook rice in the kitchen.
Passive: Rice is not cooked by mother in the kitchen.
Active: We do not hate our country.
Passive: Our country is not hated by us.
Active: I do not know the fact.
Passive: The fact is not known to me.
Active: I do not play cricket in the field.
Passive: Cricket is not played by me in the field.
Active: People do not speak Bengali all over the world.
Passive: Bengali is not spoken all over the world by people.
Active: People do not call the tiger the king of the beasts.
Passive: The tiger is not called the king of the beasts by people.
Voice Change of Present Continuous Tense (Negative)
Rule 02:
If the Active Voice has “am not/is not/are not” and “verb+ing”, we will follow the below rule to change the active voice into a passive voice.
- The object of active voice will be subject in passive voice.
- Chose one helping verb (am not/is not /are not) according to the subject.
- Write “Being” and then past participle of the verb (V3).
- Write “By” preposition then subject.
If Active Voice is in negative Present Continuous Tense then Voice Change can be done by following the rule below.
Object + am/is/are+not+being+v3+by+Subject.

Passive: Fish are not being caught by the fisherman.
Active: Kabita is not doing sums.
Passive: Sums are not being done by Kabita.

Passive: I am not being taught by father.
Active: We are not playing football.
Passive: Football is not being played by us.
Active: You are not reading English.
Passive: English is not being read by you.
Active: I am not submitting my medical certificate.
Passive: My medical certificate is not being submitted by me.
Active: They are not throwing stones into the pond.
Passive: Stones are not being thrown into the pond by them.
Active: Police are not chasing after the thief.
Passive: The thief is not being chased by police.
Active: Our English teacher is not teaching English to us.
Passive: English is not being taught to us by our English teacher.
Active: The cobbler is not mending my shoes.
Passive: My shoes are not being mended by the cobbler.
Voice Change of Present Perfect Tense (Negative)
Rule 03:
If the Active Voice has “have not/has not” and “Past participle of the verb (V3)”, we will follow the below rule to change the active voice into a passive voice.
- The object of active voice will be subject in passive voice.
- Chose one helping verb (have not/has not) according to the subject.
- Write “Been” and then past participle of the verb (V3).
- Write “By” preposition then subject.
If Active Voice is in a negative Present Perfect Tense then Voice Change can be done by following the rule below.
Object+have/has+not+been+v3+by+Subject.

Active: Ram has not written a letter.
Passive: A letter has not been written by Ram.
Active: A hunter has not killed two tigers.
Passive: Two tigers have not been killed by a hunter.
Active: Sumon has not stolen my pen.
Passive: My pen has not been stolen by Sumon.
Active: He has not done the work.
Passive: The work has not been done by him.
Active: I have not bought a good fish.
Passive: A good fish has not been bought by me.
Active: I have not lost my book.
Passive: My book has not been lost by me.
Active: My friend has not given me a nice gift.
Passive: I have not been given a nice gift by my friend.
Voice Change of Past Indefinite Tense (Negative)
Rule 04:
If the Active Voice has “Did not”, we will follow the below rule to change the active voice into a passive voice.
- The object of active voice will be subject in passive voice.
- Chose one helping verb (was not/were not) according to the subject.
- Write past participle of the verb (V3).
- Write “By” preposition then subject.
If the Active Voice is in the negative Simple Past / Past Indefinite Tense then Voice Change can be done by following the rule below.
Object+was/were+not+v3+by+Subject.

Passive: Some articles were not stolen by the thief.

Passive: A cycle was not given me by father.
Active: Kamal did not offer me a seat.
Passive: I was not offered a seat by Kamal.
Active: They did not make him king.

Voice Change of Past Continuous Tense (Negative)
Rule 05:
If the Active Voice has “was not/were not” and “verb+ing”, we will follow the below rule to change the active voice into a passive voice.
- The object of active voice will be subject in passive voice.
- Chose one helping verb (was not/were not) according to the subject.
- Write “Being” and then past participle of the verb (V3).
- Write “By” preposition then subject.
If Active Voice is in negative Past Continuous Tense then Voice Change can be done by following the rule below.
Object+was/were+not+being+v3+by+Subject.

Active: He was not reading some novels.
Passive: Some novels were not being read by him.
Active: The driver was not blowing the horn.
Passive: The horn was not being blown by the driver.
Active: Father was not teaching Sanskrit.
Passive: Sanskrit was not being taught by father.
Active: You were not flying kites.
Passive: Kites were not being flown by you.
Active: The teacher was not calling the students over their roll number.
Passive: The students were not being called over their roll number by the teacher.
Active: Farmers were not harvesting paddy.
Passive: Paddy was not being harvested by farmers.
Active: We were not watching T.V to enjoy the world cup football match.
Passive: T.V was not being watched to enjoy the world cup football match by us.
Voice Change of Past Perfect Tense (Negative)
Rule 06:
If the Active Voice has “had not” and “Past participle of the verb (V3)”, we will follow the below rule to change the active voice into a passive voice.
- The object of active voice will be subject in passive voice.
- Chose one helping verb (had not) according to the subject.
- Write “Been” and then past participle of the verb (V3).
- Write “By” preposition then subject.
If Active Voice is in a negative Past Perfect Tense then Voice Change can be done by following the rule below.
Object+had+not+been+v3+by+Subject.

Active: A thunderstorm had not lashed Kolkata.

Active: A carpenter had not repaired my broken chair.

Active: Ram had not purchased a beautiful car.
Passive: A beautiful car had not been purchased by Ram.
Active: Our principal had not advised us to attend the college regularly.
Passive: We had not been advised to attend the college regularly by our principal.
Active: The strong storm had not damaged the whole village.
Passive: The whole village had not been damaged by the strong storm.
Active: I had not received your letter.
Passive: Your letter had not been received by me.
Voice Change of Future Indefinite Tense (Negative)
Rule 07:
If the Active Voice has “shall not/will not” and “Present form of the verb (V1)”, we will follow the below rule to change the active voice into a passive voice.
- The object of active voice will be subject in passive voice.
- Chose one helping verb (shall not/will not) according to the subject.
- Write “Be” and then past participle of the verb (V3).
- Write “By” preposition then subject.
If the Active Voice is in the negative Simple Future / Future Indefinite Tense then Voice Change can be done by following the rule below.
Object+shall/will+not+be+v3+by+Subject.

Passive: The old house will not be sold by us.
Active: I shall do it.
Passive: It will not be done by me.
Active: He will not complete the work.
Passive: The work will not be completed by him.
Active: The teacher will not punish me for my bad work.

Active: They will not dig a pond.
Passive: A pond will not be dug by them.
Active: She will not make tea for the guest.
Passive: Tea will not be made for the guest by her.
Active: This news will not please me.
Passive: I shall not be pleased by this news.
Active: Reba will not invite you.
Passive: You will not be invited by Reba.
Active: People will not soon forget it.

Voice Change of Future Perfect Tense (Negative)
Rule 08:
If the Active Voice has “shall not/will not+have” and “Past participle of the verb (V3)”, we will follow the below rule to change the active voice into a passive voice.
- The object of active voice will be subject in passive voice.
- Chose one helping verb (shall not have/will not have) according to the subject.
- Write “Been” and then past participle of the verb (V3).
- Write “By” preposition then subject.
If the Active Voice is in the negative Future Perfect Tense then Voice Change can be done by following the rule below.
Object+shall/will+not+have+been+v3+by+Subject.

Passive: The Tajmahal will not have been seen by Mina.

Voice Change of Modal Sentences (Negative)
Rule 09:
If the Active Voice is the modal sentence (Can not/ could not/ may not/ might not/ should not/ would not/ must not/ ought not to / used not to) and “Present form of the verb (V1)”, we will follow the below rule to change the active voice into passive voice.
- The object of active voice will be subject in passive voice.
- Chose the same modal verb (Can not/ could not/ may not/ might not/ should not/ would not/ must not/ ought not to / used not to).
- Write “Be” and then past participle of the verb (V3).
- Write “By” preposition then subject.
If Active Voice is in negative Modal Sentence then Voice Change can be done by following the rule below.
Object+ modal verb +not+be+v3+by+Subject.

Passive: A song can not be sung by you.
Active: We should not plant trees.
Passive: Trees should not be planted by us.
Active: Our team could not defeat Sabuj Sangha.

Active: Tapan would not speak Hindi fluently.
Passive: Hindi would not be spoken fluently by Tapan.
Active: She might not use my scale.
