Interchange of Imperative and Assertive Sentences
Transformation of Sentences [Imperative to Assertive], Read in Bangla
IMPERATIVE ASSERTIVE
0.1 Please/kindly ———————- Affirmative: You are requested to………. /Negative: You are requested not to ……..
If we find the word “Please/Kindly” in the imperative sentence, we will write “You are requested to” at the time in the case of affirmative sentence and “You are requested not to” in the case of the negative sentence instead of that word [Please/Kindly] to convert the imperative sentence into the assertive sentence.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Imperative: Please, give me a glass of water.
Assertive: You are requested to give me a glass of water.
Imperative: Don’t tell a lie, please.
Assertive: You are requested not to tell a lie.
Imperative: Kindly, tell me your mobile number.
Assertive: You are requested to tell me your mobile number.
Imperative: Please, never forget the person who helps you.
Assertive: You are requested not to forget the person who helps you.
02. Start with main verb —————— S + should/must + v +o.
If we find that the Imperative sentence is starting with the main verb, we will write an assertive sentence using “should and must” to convert the imperative sentence into the assertive sentence.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Imperative: Go to the doctor.
Assertive: You should go to the doctor.
Imperative: Take care of your health.
Assertive: You should take care of your health.
Imperative: Always speak the truth.
Assertive: You should always speak the truth.
03. Start with [do not + main verb] ————- S + should/ must + not + v +o.
If we find that the Imperative sentence is starting with “Do not the main verb”, we will write an Assertive sentence using “should not and must not” to convert the imperative sentence into the assertive sentence.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Imperative: Don’t break the rules.
Assertive: You should not break the rules.
Imperative: Don’t forget the time.
Assertive: You must not forget the time.
Imperative: Never tell a lie.
Assertive: You must not tell a lie.
04. Start with Let ———— [Affirmative- S + should + v + o.] [Negative- S + should + not + v + o.]
If we find that an Imperative sentence is starting with “Let”, we will write an Assertive sentence using “should” in the case of affirmative sentence and “Should not” in the case of negative sentence to convert the imperative sentence into an assertive sentence.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Imperative: Let us respect our teacher.
Assertive: We should respect our teachers.
Imperative: Let him come in.
Assertive: He should come in.
Imperative: Let her cook at night.
Assertive: She should cook at night.

Assertive: He should not touch the knife
Imperative: Let us not break the traffic rules.
Assertive: We should not break the traffic rules.
Imperative: Let him not waste time.
Assertive: He should not waste time.
